Orbital Blues: Afterburn
My First Dungeon’s first sponsored season, plus who’s up next on Talk of the Table
Join our crew of sad space cowboys on an epic Orbital Blues adventure with My First Dungeon’s first sponsored season and a sneak peek at the Orbital Blues: Afterburn Kickstarter campaign, launching NEXT WEEK on October 17th.
This season of My First Dungeon will take listeners to the Frontier Galaxy for a story of regret, revenge, and, of course, sadness. The cast—all familiar voices to fans of the podcast—is thrilled to be exploring this game as they create a crew united in both sadness and love.
And even more exciting, our space adventure is officially sponsored by Soul Muppet Publishing as part of the Orbital Blues: Afterburn Kickstarter campaign!
The seven-part season launches today starting with an interview with Orbital Blues creators, Zach Cox and Sam Sleney, and Session Zero (character creation and learning mechanics and lots of sad space songs, oh my!), to help kick off the fundraising for the Afterburn supplement.

Each week during the month-long Kickstarter, we’ll be releasing new episodes following the melancholy mess that is the crew of The 21st Night of September, a barely functioning spaceship decked to the nines with motivational posters. And no MFD season would be complete without a full OST by the one and only BE/HOLD. Plus, you can catch weekly talkbacks with the cast and a post-season reunion only on our Patreon.
How will our sorrowful crew handle the pain when their troubles come a brewin’? Is there any hope they’ll ever be able to scratch their debt? Just how sad can a sad space cowboy get? Tune in to find out as we laugh, cry, and grit our teeth through this action packed season.
Who’s Got The Aux?
An Orbital Blues playlist from the crew of The 21st Night of September
During our Session Zero, the players all chose songs that represented the setting, their ship, and their characters. So if you’re ever flying through the Frontier Galaxy aboard a colorful ship called The 21st Night of September these are a few of the song you might hear when an interstellar outlaw grabs the aux cord and starts playing some tunes.
Before our interstellar outlaws boarded The 21st Night of September—and before they even existed at all—Brian sent out a playlist to all the players this season to give them a vibe of his vision of the Frontier Galaxy. Let us know what kind of sad space cowboy you would create after hearing this playlist.
You Owe Them Your Effort, Featuring J Strautman
The latest episode of Talk of the Table
In the latest episode of Talk of the Table, Brian and Elliot are joined by J Strautman, the co-DM and audio designer of Planet Arcana*, to discuss innovation and effort in actual play, why solo-ish games are fun, and when you can call yourself a “Game Designer”.
J is one of our very favorite people in the TTRPG community and this is one of our favorite episodes we’ve recorded. Between us gassing each other up and talking about our love of solo games you’ll find a lot of great thoughts about playing and making games.
* A big congratulations to Planet Arcana who recently won Best Actual Play (D&D) and Best Dungeon Master at the Minnesota Webfest as well as Outstanding Actual Play Podcast (D&D) at The New Jersey Webfest! (I think I’m even missing some awards here…basically, go listen to Planet Arcana. It’s awesome!)
